1. Do I need to apply for a visa to Shanghai? Is the 144-Hour Visa Free Transit implemented in Shanghai?

Yes, you should apply for a Chinese Visa when you come to China for tour. 144-hour Visa-free transit is implemented in Shanghai for foreign citizens from 53 countries, including Canada, Brazil, Denmark, France, UK, USA, Italy, Japan, Poland, etc. Moreover, the online application system was put into use since Nov, 1st, 2018, shortening the application time to 20 minutes. Apart from the 53 countries, citizens from other foreign countries are expected to obtain a valid visa before visit. 

2. Is it safe to go to Shanghai China?

Shanghai is one of most popular tourist destinations in China and it’s a quite safe non-violent city. Travelers are often victims of petty crime, but this can be prevented by taking precautions. Transportation there is also very convenient and safe to go around Shanghai. Tourists can take a bullet train from Shanghai to nearby cities such as Suzhou, Hangzhou, Beijing and farther cities in China.

3. Long layover at PVG--Can I go into Shanghai?

Shanghai is one of the “Layover cities” in China. For the convenience of tourists, Shanghai municipality offers the Transit Without Visa (TWOV) policy, which lets you visit Shanghai visa-free for up to 144 hours. You can not only travel within Shanghai Municipality but also neighboring Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces. This policy requires that passengers must be in transit to a third country or region.

4. What is the weather in Shanghai?

Shanghai has a humid subtropical climate with four distinct seasons. The best time for travelling in Shanghai is spring(March to May) and autumn (Sep. to Nov.), the temperatures is around 20°C. Summer is hot and humid, the hottest month is July; Winter is cold and wet, the coldest month is January. 

5. Is Shanghai expensive to visit?

Shanghai, as the largest city in China, the cost of living in Shanghai is more expensive than other cities in China. The cost is getting higher to travel in China. If possible, avoid June, July and August with travel crowds, scorching hot weather, and frequent summer showers.
