Introduction
Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Hall tells people how Shanghai became a famous international city from a small fishing village. It exhibits the overall layout of Shanghai, especially the great changes that have taken place since the economic reform and opening to the outside world in 1978.
The Exhibition Center is a six-story building, with two basement levels, which displays Shanghai's urban planning and development. The focus of the exhibit is a large scale model of the entirety of urban Shanghai, showing existing buildings and approved future buildings. Other exhibits relate to Shanghai's history and planned development, including smaller scaled models focussing on particular areas of interest such as the Bund. The Exhibition Center also has space for temporary exhibitions with a wide range of subject matter.
Architecture
Covering an floor area of 4000 square meters and a building area of 20670 square meters, the Urban Planning Exhibition Center of Shanghai is 43.3 meters high, providing about 7000 square meters for all-round exhibitions with 4 storeys. The main design of the building is the inspiration from the ancient Chinese city gate. It masterly combines the traditional centrosymmetric structure with the modern features. The exterior is a great aesthetics with fluent lines, majestic and elegant; while the 4 steel connected shell-shaped pieces on the top just like the blooming magnolia flowers- the city flower of Shanghai, symbolizing Shanghai’s prosperous development future. Set off the blue sky, the building is glittering and translucent in meshworks, has once won honorable national architecture prizes.
Exhibits
The centerpiece of the exhibition is a huge scale model of the city of Shanghai, showing all existing and approved buildings.
The main feature of the first floor is a large revolving statue of some of Shanghai's most famous buildings.
There are some movies and moving models which depict ancient Shanghai in the second floor.
The highlight is on the third floor. There is a city model made to a scale of 1/500, which features Shanghai's present.
The fourth floor displays future transportation, including magnetic levitation, subway, and light-rail trains.
The fifth floor showcases the 2010 World Expo and what is being constructed.
The basement was built to appear like a street in old Shanghai.
Guide service
Visitors can use the touch-screens on different floors to know the urban planning and development information.
Audio guide
To meet different visitors' needs,the digital audio guide can introduce the exhibitions in Chinese and English. Visitor can hear the introduction by inputting the exhibition number. During the visit, the introduction can be replayed.

Transportation
Take bus 18, 46, 49,123, 451, 802, 930, Tunnel Line 3, and get off at People's Square (Fuzhou Road/Guangdong Road)
Take City Sightseeing Bus to get there directly.
Take Subway Line 1, Line 2 or Line 8 and get off at People's Square Station. Get out from Exit 2 or 3, and then you will see the exhibition hall.
