I recently took the Shanghai One-Day Tour and it was a fantastic experience. As someone who wanted to see both the vibrant city life and the tranquil side of Shanghai, this tour was a perfect balance. Our guide, Michael, was exceptional—knowledgeable and personable, making the experience feel personalized and relaxed.
The day started with a tour of The Bund and Nanjing Road, where Michael provided insightful commentary on Shanghai's evolution, highlighting the stunning contrast between colonial-era architecture and the city's futuristic skyline. From there, we explored the peaceful Yuyuan Garden and the nearby bustling Yuyuan Bazaar, where Michael shared details about the garden's design and history. His recommendations for local snacks and souvenirs added an authentic touch to the experience.
The true highlight was visiting Zhujiajiao Water Town, a serene escape from the city. Michael took us through the narrow, charming streets and arranged a relaxing boat cruise along the canals. We also stopped at a local teahouse to experience the traditional Chinese tea ceremony. This unexpected moment was a perfect way to connect with the culture, and it helped us unwind after the busy morning in Shanghai.
Overall, this tour was a wonderful mix of modern Shanghai and traditional charm. Michael's knowledge, attention to detail, and ability to adjust plans made the day seamless and enjoyable. If you’re looking to experience the essence of Shanghai in just one day, this tour is a must.

I had the chance to experience the Shanghai One-Day Tour: City Highlights and Zhujiajiao Water Town, and it was a wonderful way to see both sides of the city. Michael, our guide, was fantastic—friendly, knowledgeable, and very flexible with the itinerary. We started with The Bund and Nanjing Road, where Michael gave us great insights into the city’s history and development.
The real highlight for me was Zhujiajiao Water Town. After the modernity of Shanghai, the calm canals and traditional architecture of the town were the perfect contrast. Michael took us on a peaceful boat cruise and even made sure we had a stop at a local teahouse to experience Chinese tea culture.
The tour was well-paced, and when it rained unexpectedly, Michael quickly shifted the plan to keep us comfortable. It’s rare to find a guide who’s both knowledgeable and flexible, and I really appreciated that about Michael. Perfect for anyone looking to experience the best of Shanghai and a peaceful escape to a hidden gem in just one day!

I recently joined the 3-Day Shanghai Tour Package, which included a serene visit to Zhujiajiao Water Town, and I can’t recommend it enough. As a couple who loves history and culture, we were eager to see both the modern side and hidden gems of Shanghai. Our guide, John, was fantastic—he made the entire experience smooth and enjoyable, with an excellent mix of historical insight and flexibility.
The first day in Shanghai was packed with highlights. We started with a walk along Nanjing Road, one of the world’s busiest shopping streets, where John gave us an interesting rundown of Shanghai’s rapid modernization. It was a fascinating contrast to the old-world charm we would later experience in Zhujiajiao. Then, we explored The Bund, where John shared details about the colonial-era buildings that line the riverfront. He also explained the evolution of Shanghai as a global trading hub. Afterward, we strolled through Yuyuan Garden & Bazaar, a beautiful blend of traditional Chinese architecture and lively market streets. John made sure to point out the historical significance of the garden’s design, and we had fun browsing the local shops.
On the second day, we made our way to Zhujiajiao Water Town, and this was, without a doubt, a highlight. The town’s ancient canals, stone bridges, and old houses made us feel like we had stepped back in time. John took us to the Fangsheng Bridge for photos and told us fascinating stories about the town’s history. We then enjoyed a peaceful boat cruise through the canals, which was a perfect way to relax and take in the tranquil atmosphere. Despite the summer heat, John kept us comfortable by suggesting a stop at a cool, cozy local tea house, where we learned about Chinese tea culture. It was a great way to escape the heat and enjoy a moment of serenity.
The third day took us through Old French Concession and Tianzifang, two charming neighborhoods that showcase the city’s unique blend of French colonial influence and modern art. John was extremely knowledgeable about the history and architecture, and we were able to enjoy the walk without feeling rushed. We then visited Kezhi Garden, a peaceful, lesser-known spot that offered a quiet retreat from the city’s bustle. Afterward, we stopped at the Qing Post Office, which gave us a glimpse into China’s past during the Qing Dynasty.
Throughout the tour, John went above and beyond to make sure everything ran smoothly. When the weather unexpectedly turned quite hot, he quickly adjusted the itinerary and made suggestions to keep us comfortable. For example, instead of continuing to walk through the crowded streets, he led us to an air-conditioned museum for a short break, and then we resumed our sightseeing with new energy.
By the end of the tour, we felt like we had experienced the best of Shanghai—the modern vibrancy of Nanjing Road and The Bund, the tranquility of Zhujiajiao Water Town, and the charm of the city's historical neighborhoods. John’s flexibility, knowledge, and attention to detail made this trip unforgettable.

He was always on time, informative, and very adaptable to our needs. The city highlights on the first two days were great, especially Yu Garden and The Bund. But Zhujiajiao on the second day was the real gem for us—a charming water town full of history.
We had a little hiccup with the weather, as it got quite hot, but John suggested we cool off at a lovely tea house, where we got to enjoy some tea while learning about the culture. His flexibility made the day even more enjoyable. By the time we returned to Shanghai, we felt like we had truly experienced both the modern and traditional sides of the city. Highly recommend this tour if you want a nice balance between sightseeing and relaxation!

I’ve always been fascinated by the idea of hidden gems right under the hustle and bustle of a modern city, so when I saw the Zhujiajiao Water Town Half-Day Tour from Shanghai, I jumped at the chance to explore this ancient water town. My guide, John, was incredible from start to finish. His knowledge of the area’s history made the tour much more than just a sightseeing experience.
Zhujiajiao is often referred to as “the Venice of Shanghai” because of its beautiful canals, ancient bridges, and well-preserved traditional buildings. As we wandered through the narrow streets, John shared fascinating details about the town’s past and how it evolved over centuries. What stood out to me was how untouched the town felt compared to the usual tourist destinations around Shanghai. We spent time at the iconic Fangsheng Bridge, and I was really impressed by how John made sure we avoided the typical crowds, taking us to quieter spots where we could get a true sense of the town's charm.
But there was an unexpected twist! As we approached the Qing Dynasty Post Office, a sudden downpour caught us off guard. Instead of letting the weather dampen the experience, John quickly adapted. He suggested we visit a local tea house, which ended up being a highlight. The tea ceremony was intimate and calming, a perfect break from the rain, and John explained the significance of tea culture in China with such passion that it added a new layer to our visit.
Despite the rain, John remained upbeat and flexible, adjusting our schedule so that we still got to experience all of Zhujiajiao’s best spots. We ended the tour by taking a boat ride through the canals, where we got to see the town from a unique perspective. John made sure to take plenty of photos of us on the boat, and the entire experience felt personalized and smooth.
If you're looking for a tranquil escape from Shanghai’s fast pace, Zhujiajiao is a wonderful place to visit. John’s expertise and adaptability truly enhanced the experience, making it one of my favorite days in China.
