Our 9-day journey through some of China’s most captivating cities was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and I cannot express enough how much of this success can be attributed to our outstanding guides—Andy, Darcy, and Autumn. Each city brought its own flavor, and the professionalism and warmth of the guides made every moment unforgettable.

We began our adventure in Shanghai, where our guide Andy welcomed us with a big smile and extensive knowledge. He started with a detailed tour of the Shanghai Museum, where he explained the cultural significance of ancient Chinese art and artifacts. As we walked through Yuyuan Garden & Bazaar, Andy’s insights into the architecture and history of this magnificent garden helped us appreciate its beauty on a deeper level. We then strolled down the vibrant Nanjing Road, where Andy made sure we didn’t miss any must-see spots, including the famous Bund and its stunning colonial buildings. The boat cruise along the Huangpu River provided a fantastic view of Shanghai’s dazzling skyline, and Andy ensured we were in the best spot to capture the perfect photos. His thoughtful suggestions and friendly demeanor truly made Shanghai come to life for us.

The next day, we boarded the bullet train to Suzhou, where we were greeted by our new guide, Darcy. Suzhou is a city known for its classical gardens, and Darcy brought each location to life with fascinating stories and insights. Our first stop was the Lingering Garden, where Darcy explained the symbolism behind the garden’s design, making it much more than just a pretty place to look at. Next, we visited Tiger Hill, where Darcy’s knowledge of the site’s history, including the Leaning Pagoda, kept us engaged and entertained. Afterward, we took a leisurely walk down Pingjiang Ancient Street, where Darcy introduced us to traditional Suzhou handicrafts and local street food. His passion for the culture was contagious, and we couldn’t have asked for a better guide to experience this charming city.

On Day 4, we journeyed to Hangzhou, and our new guide, Autumn, was there to greet us with her bubbly personality. Hangzhou’s West Lake was everything we imagined and more. The boat cruise was peaceful and beautiful, and Autumn’s tales about the lake’s myths and legends added a magical element to the experience. We also visited the Fish Viewing at the Flower Pond and Lingyin Temple, where Autumn’s knowledge of Buddhist culture and history enriched the visit. One of the highlights of our time in Hangzhou was the Meijiawu Tea Plantation, where we had the privilege of sampling some of China’s finest green tea, and Autumn’s detailed explanations about tea culture were both fascinating and informative. In the evening, we enjoyed the Impression West Lake Show, a breathtaking performance that left us in awe of Hangzhou’s natural beauty and rich cultural heritage.

Our final stop was Huangshan, where we met our final guide, Hanah. This Hanah was just as wonderful, and her energy was contagious as we explored the stunning landscape of Huangshan Scenic Area. From the iconic granite peaks to the ancient pine trees that seem to stretch out of the mist, the views were spectacular, and Hanah’s expert guidance helped us fully appreciate the grandeur of this UNESCO World Heritage site. We also had the chance to explore Tunxi Ancient Street before heading up the mountain, and Hanah made sure to share the history and unique characteristics of the local architecture. One of the most unforgettable moments of the trip was catching the Huangshan sunrise. Our guide, Hanah, ensured we had the perfect spot to witness the breathtaking view, and she even brought us hot tea to enjoy while we waited for the sun to rise over the peaks.

Throughout the trip, our drivers were also exceptional. From Mr. Li in Shanghai to Mr. Zhang in Hangzhou, every driver was punctual, professional, and ensured our rides were comfortable. The smooth transitions between cities and the seamless coordination between our guides made the whole experience feel effortless. In conclusion, this tour was a perfect blend of history, culture, and natural beauty. Thanks to our expert guides Andy, Darcy, and Autumn, we experienced China in a way that felt personal, insightful, and incredibly enriching. We can’t wait to return!

We started our day on Nanjing Road, where the blend of modernity and tradition was striking. After a quick snack at the nearby Bazaar, we ventured into the Old French Concession, a charming neighborhood with tree-lined streets, colonial buildings, and trendy cafés. John’s stories about Shanghai’s colonial era made it all come alive.

We then took a walk through Tianzifang, a creative hub filled with art galleries, boutiques, and eateries. John helped us find a hidden café, where we relaxed and took in the local atmosphere. We continued to Kezhi Garden, a more peaceful garden than Yuyuan, where we could appreciate the serenity and traditional landscaping.

The next stop was the Qing Post Office, a quaint and historically significant spot. John gave us a detailed account of its role during Shanghai’s history as a major international trade hub. Afterward, we walked along Fangsheng Bridge, where John shared the cultural significance of the bridge and the ritual of releasing live fish into the river.

Finally, we capped off the day with a boat cruise along the Huangpu River, where we had a magnificent view of the city’s illuminated skyline. It was the perfect way to end a day of exploration. Whether it was taking family photos in front of the iconic castle or enjoying the parades, the day was packed with fun and unforgettable moments.
