Tour Style:
Shanghai changes after dark, and this night tour is built around the Huangpu River. You board a VIP cruise with a guide aboard, take a buffet dinner on the boat, and watch the skyline light up from the water. The route runs past the Bund and its old bank buildings on one side and the Pudong towers, the Oriental Pearl and the Shanghai Tower, on the other, with about an hour on the river. Seeing the city from the water gives a clearer read of its scale than standing on the quay. It suits an evening where you want dinner, a boat, and the main night views handled in one go, without arranging the crossing yourself.

  • Place&Transport: Shanghai
  • Today's Activities: Night Cruise On the Huangpu River with buffet dinner
  • Accommodation: N/A
  • Meal: To avoid touristy pre-made meals, our guides will recommend top local restaurants, help you choose dishes, and explain their cultural significance for an authentic taste of local cuisine.

Meeting You and Heading to the Pier

Your evening starts where you are staying. Your guide meets you in the lobby of your Shanghai hotel, keeping an eye out for the Your Way Holiday sign, then drives you to a pier on the Bund side of the river. The ride across town sets out how the night runs, when to be on the boat, where dinner is, and when the deck opens up. Pick up is from your hotel only on this cruise, so send your guide the hotel name and address and the rest is handled.

What the VIP Cruise Includes

The VIP fare covers more than a seat on the water. You get a separate boarding lane and a reserved VIP cabin with its own viewing deck, a welcome drink of champagne or juice, a gift pack with a small souvenir and a route brochure, and a buffet of Chinese and Western dishes with drinks. A guide narrates the sights as you pass them, and the operator can arrange private extras such as a full charter, a proposal setup, or a birthday dinner if you ask ahead.

Boarding and the Safety Briefing

At the pier your guide takes you through priority check-in and the VIP boarding lane, so you skip the general queue. Once aboard you are handed the welcome drink and the gift pack. Before the boat leaves the guide gives a short briefing: how long you are on the water, which sights you pass, where the deck and the restrooms sit, and the safety points. The sailing is close to an hour, and the wider four- to five-hour evening covers hotel pick up, boarding, dinner, and the drop off at the end.

The Sailing and the Skyline Explained

You are shown to the VIP cabin, a quieter space with its own open deck, and the boat pushes off as the light goes. From the water the two sides of the city sit facing each other. On the west bank is the Bund, a row of banks and trading houses put up in the 1920s and 1930s; on the east bank is Lujiazui, the glass financial district. The guide names the landmarks as they rise past, the Oriental Pearl Tower with its pink spheres at 468 metres and open since 1994, the Jin Mao Tower at 421 metres and 88 storeys, the World Financial Center at 492 metres cut like a bottle opener at the crown, and the Shanghai Tower at 632 metres, the tallest building in China.

Dinner on the Water

Dinner is served while the boat is under way. You pick between the Chinese and Western buffet or a menu set up in advance, and you eat in the VIP section with the deck a few steps away. The route swings back along the Bund, so between courses you watch the old stone facades light up and, across the river, the Pearl Tower and the three tall towers of Lujiazui shift colour. The whole thing is timed to sail after dark, when the skyline lighting is fully on.

The Open Deck and the Photo Stop

Partway along, the open air deck is where everyone gathers. It gives the only unblocked view on the boat, the lit Bund buildings on one side and the Pudong towers on the other, their lights pulled long across the water. This is where the postcard frames come from, with the Pearl Tower, the Jin Mao Tower, and the Shanghai Tower lined up against the black river. Shoot on your own phone or camera, or hand it to the crew for a group shot, because a photographer works the deck too and you can pick up the pictures before you leave.

The open air deck looking across to the Lujiazui towersThe Oriental Pearl Tower and Shanghai skyline seen from the boat

Dessert and the Ride Back

On the way back in, the VIP cabin serves dessert and coffee and the guide is still around to answer questions about what you saw. This is when most people go through the photographs from the deck. When the boat ties up again, your guide walks you to the drop off you arranged. On this cruise that is a return transfer to your Shanghai hotel, the same way you were collected, so plan on going back to where you started rather than to the airport or the railway station.

How long is the Huangpu River night cruise?

The boat is on the water for close to an hour. The whole outing runs four to five hours once you add hotel pick up, boarding, dinner, and the drop off, so you leave in the late afternoon and are back after dark.

Is dinner included?

Yes. The VIP fare includes a buffet of Chinese and Western dishes with drinks, a welcome glass of champagne or juice, and dessert and coffee on the return leg. If you have a dietary requirement or want a set menu instead of the buffet, tell the operator when you book so the kitchen prepares for it.

Where do you get picked up and dropped off?

From and back to your Shanghai hotel. The tour lists hotel pick up and drop off only, not the airport or the train station, so give your guide the hotel name and address and look for the Your Way Holiday sign in the lobby.

What will we see from the boat?

Both halves of the city at once. On the west bank the Bund, a row of 1920s and 1930s banks and trading houses; on the east bank Lujiazui, with the Oriental Pearl Tower, the Jin Mao Tower, the World Financial Center, and the 632 metre Shanghai Tower. The lighting runs after sunset, which is why the sailing is set for night.

What does the VIP part actually add?

A separate boarding lane so you skip the queue, a reserved VIP cabin with its own viewing deck, a gift pack, and table service through dinner. The operator can also arrange a private charter for a proposal, a birthday, or a small group event if you ask in advance.

Anything to bring?

A light jacket for the open deck, since it is windy on the water after dark, and your hotel key so the guide can walk you back in after the drop off. A phone camera is enough for the skyline, and a tripod is not worth carrying onto a moving boat.

This was not the standard tourist cruise. We had a small private boat with a guide who narrated the history of the bund buildings as we passed each one. Champagne and canapes were served while we watched the skyline transition from colonial architecture to the futuristic pudong towers. The guide arranged for us to dock at a private pier near the old dock and walk into a hidden rooftop bar. Felt very exclusive and worth the premium.

Did the Huangpu River night cruise with Your Way Holiday and guide Darce – total win! Darce was super efficient, got us on the boat fast, and pointed out all the must-see landmarks (Oriental Pearl, Bund) in simple, fun terms. Boat was clean, views were insane, and no hassle at all. Would 100% book with them again for any Shanghai tour. Thanks, team!

My family and I had the most enchanting evening with our guide Andy on the Huangpu River Night Cruise in Shanghai. The experience was nothing short of spectacular, with the iconic skyline of Shanghai illuminated against the night sky. We boarded the boat from a well-organized pier, and Andy, who was warm and professional, made sure we were comfortable the entire time.

From the very start, Andy's enthusiasm was contagious. He shared fascinating insights about the landmarks along the river, like the Bund and the modern skyscrapers of Lujiazui, while making sure we had the best possible views. His knowledge of the city’s history and development was impressive, and he answered all our questions with ease. His excellent command of English made it easy to engage with him and learn more about Shanghai's transformation into a global city.

The self-service buffet dinner on board was a highlight. There was a wide variety of local and international dishes, all freshly prepared, and the staff were attentive and quick to clear the tables. The highlight of the meal was undoubtedly the fresh seafood. As we ate, the city’s skyline seemed to transform under the lights, and Andy pointed out key landmarks like the Oriental Pearl Tower, Jin Mao Tower, and Shanghai Tower.

The entire atmosphere was just so relaxing. The cool breeze, the glittering lights of the buildings reflecting on the river, and the lively yet peaceful ambiance made the cruise one of the best ways to appreciate Shanghai. Andy even helped us take family photos with the stunning skyline in the background.

We also want to praise the driver who took us from our hotel to the pier. He was punctual, friendly, and ensured that we got to the boat in a timely manner, avoiding the rush hour traffic. Overall, it was a seamless experience, and I would highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to experience Shanghai from a different perspective.

If you want a blend of great food, mesmerizing views, and a knowledgeable guide like Andy, this Huangpu River Night Cruise is a must-do. It was definitely a highlight of our trip!

We only had half a day in Shanghai, and choosing this 5-6 hour Huangpu River cruise turned out to be the perfect decision! Our guide was amazing—fluent in English, super knowledgeable, and great at sharing interesting stories about the city’s past and present. It wasn’t just sightseeing; we actually learned a lot about the history behind The Bund, Pudong’s skyline, and the colonial-era buildings along the river.
The company was also great—communication was smooth from the start, and they were super flexible when we needed to change our departure time. The driver was professional, the vehicle was spotless and had no odor, and most importantly, he drove very safely, which we really appreciated since we had kids with us.
As for the itinerary, it was super well-organized. Even with limited time, we got to see all the iconic spots—gliding past the historic Bund, catching the sunset glow on the skyscrapers of Lujiazui, and even passing under the beautifully lit bridges after dark. The cruise itself was scenic, relaxing, and just the right pace—not rushed at all. If you’re short on time but want a solid glimpse of Shanghai’s charm, this is 100% worth it!

Attractions(Cities):The Bund, Shanghai Tower, Nanjing Road, Old French Concession, Yuyuan Bazaar & Snack Street, Disneyland Park

Tour Style:This Shanghai vacation package is planned for families traveling with children. A private guide who works well with kids keeps the pace easy, builds in breaks, and explains each stop in a way both children and adults follow. The route covers Disneyland Park for rides and shows, the old snack and food street for local flavors, and the city skyline along the Bund and Shanghai Tower, with a walk through the old French Concession. Every stop has a real story behind it, so parents get the history and the children get something to look at. The mix of park time, food, and sightseeing is arranged to suit the interests of the whole family in one Shanghai day.

Attractions(Cities):Hangzhou: Westlake, Lingyin Temple, Leifeng Pagoda, Longjing Tea Village... Suzhou:Lingering Garden, Hanshan Temple, Tongli Water Town

Tour Style:Above there is heaven, below are Suzhou and Hangzhou is an old saying, and this 5-day tour covers all three cities on one private itinerary. A guide and a private vehicle handle the transfers between Shanghai, Suzhou, and Hangzhou, so language and logistics are not your problem. The route gives you time on West Lake, a slow look inside a classical Suzhou garden with its rockeries and covered walkways, and a view of how people live and work in each city. You also visit a tea village south of Hangzhou and walk old streets that predate the modern skyline. It is a full introduction to the Yangtze delta for travelers who want the three cities covered together, at a steady pace, without arranging trains and tickets on their own.
