As someone obsessed with history, this itinerary was a dream come true—and Your Way Holiday turned it into a reality that surpassed even my highest hopes. Beijing’s ancient landmarks left me in awe: the Forbidden City’s golden rooftops and intricate carvings, the Temple of Heaven’s serene gardens, and the Mutianyu Great Wall’s sweeping vistas. Guide Andy’s passion for his city was contagious; he didn’t just show us sites—he made us feel connected to their stories, from the emperors who walked these halls to the workers who built the Great Wall.
Xi’an, the heart of ancient China, was equally captivating. The Terracotta Warriors Museum was a surreal experience—standing amid thousands of life-sized soldiers, each with unique features, felt like stepping back in time. Guide Darcy’s knowledge was unparalleled; she pointed out details like the soldiers’ hairstyles and armor that revealed their ranks, making the visit both educational and immersive. Exploring the Xian Ancient City Wall at sunset, cycling along its 13-kilometer length with views of the city below, was pure magic. The Shaanxi History Museum provided the perfect context for Xi’an’s rich past, with Darcy highlighting key artifacts that traced the city’s role as a imperial capital.
Shanghai offered a striking contrast—from the traditional charm of Yuyuan Garden and Jade Buddha Temple to the glittering skyline of the Bund and Oriental Pearl Tower. Guide Autumn’s local tips made all the difference: she took us to a hidden teahouse in the Old French Concession for authentic oolong, and recommended a family-run restaurant near the Bund for the best xiaolongbao. The Huangpu River Night Cruise, with the city’s skyscrapers lit up against the dark sky, was a fittingly spectacular end to our cultural journey. Every step of the way, the guides’ expertise and the itinerary’s thoughtful design made this trip a once-in-a-lifetime experience I’ll cherish forever.
