Is it true that the Muslim market or Food Street in Shanghai has closed since Corvid until now? I will be in Shanghai from 15 to 19 August. I hope it has reopened.

Dear Edwin,
Thank you for your email and your interest in Shanghai’s Muslim market/food street. We are happy to share the latest information with you:
The original outdoor Muslim market (Friday market) near Huxi Mosque (Changde Road / Aomen Road) was suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, it has NOT remained closed permanently. Instead, it has reopened and operates as a weekly Friday-only market (every Friday morning/afternoon, typically 10:00 AM – 2:00/3:00 PM). Additionally, a new indoor halal food hub has opened nearby on Changshou Road as a permanent alternative.
Since you will be in Shanghai 15–19 August 2026, you can visit the market on Friday, 15 August (the first day of your stay) to experience the authentic halal food and local vibe.
We will compile a detailed reply with market opening hours, address, transportation tips, recommended halal eateries, and updated itinerary adjustments and send it to you via email shortly.
