After your hike along the Mutianyu Great Wall, you’ll head to a charming local restaurant nestled in a nearby village, where an authentic Beijing-style lunch awaits. Here, you’ll get a taste of everyday flavors enjoyed by locals, starting with the ever-popular Jianbing—a savory Chinese crepe freshly prepared on a hot griddle. Watch as the vendor layers the crepe with egg, fragrant scallions, cilantro, fermented bean paste, and crispy fried dough, folding it into a golden, crispy roll with a perfect mix of textures and umami. For dessert, indulge in Tanghulu, a colorful skewer of sugar-glazed hawthorn berries or seasonal fruits that crackle with every bite—offering a nostalgic crunch and the perfect balance of tart and sweet. As your guide shares the cultural backstory of these traditional dishes, you'll gain a deeper appreciation of Beijing’s street food heritage, turning this lunch into more than just a meal—it’s a flavorful journey into local life.

Following lunch, your journey continues to Dingling Tomb, one of the thirteen Ming Dynasty imperial mausoleums nestled at the foot of Tianshou Mountain. As the final resting place of Emperor Wanli and his two empresses, Dingling is unique among the Ming Tombs—it is the only one that has been fully excavated, revealing a vast underground palace hidden 27 meters beneath the surface. Accompanied by your guide, you’ll descend into this atmospheric crypt, where you’ll explore a network of stone chambers once sealed for centuries. Inside, marvel at the original imperial thrones, intricately carved stone doors, and a display of unearthed treasures—including jade burial items, gold crowns, silk robes, and ornate lacquered coffins. Your guide will share the fascinating stories behind these objects, shedding light on Ming dynasty beliefs about the afterlife, burial rites, and the extraordinary craftsmanship that defined the era. As you walk through this solemn yet majestic space, you'll gain rare insight into China’s imperial legacy and the enduring reverence for its emperors.

Wow - what an incredible experience! I couldn't be more pleased with the 14-day China Tour that covered Shanghai, Suzhou, Guilin, Chengdu, Xi'an, and Beijing. This journey truly delivered exceptional value for the price. The itinerary was perfectly balanced, ensuring we experienced the best of each destination without feeling rushed. From the modernity of Shanghai to the classical beauty of Suzhou's gardens, the stunning landscapes in Guilin, and the cultural treasures of Xi'an and Beijing, every stop was well-planned.

What made this trip even more memorable was how relaxed and at ease my family, especially my children, felt throughout. The guides were not only knowledgeable but also incredibly friendly, making us feel like we were traveling with a friend rather than a tour guide. Their insights into local culture and history added a new layer of appreciation to each location. Overall, this tour of China provided an unforgettable experience and a deeper understanding of China's rich heritage. It's a journey I would highly recommend to anyone seeking a comprehensive and reasonably priced exploration of this incredible country.

Our favorite guides were Sara and Jimmy. Sara taught us a lot, both historical and current information. She also went out of her way to provide some music that she enjoys since she knew I was looking for popular music while I was in China. Jimmy provided a wealth of information and made sure we all were able to pick up a few last gifts before our time in China was over, and he did this without costing us any items from our agenda. They both packed a lot of activities and fun in a short amount of time. Went above and beyond what could have been expected of them. We wish we could have had more time with Judy. She was a lot of fun and had a unique personality. Our favorite tour activities were the small boat excursion and the Tang Dynasty dinner show.

We had no problems with communicating with any of the guides. Some spoke a more Americanized version of English than others but we enjoyed the differences between the guides. We never felt that we were missing information due to a lack of communication.

Just back from a fantastic trip to China! From Bonnie's help arranging my itinerary to the knowledgeable and friendly guides (Angela in Beijing, Wei in Xi'an and Avril in Shanghai & Suzhou) and the drivers the whole experience was amazing, if not too short! Too many highlights to mention, but two standouts were walking on the Great Wall (trip from Beijing) and seeing the Terracotta Warriors (trip from Xi'an). Will definitely return to see more of the country, and wouldn't hesitate to use China Private Tour again. Thanks!!

14 days trip Shanghai, Suzhou, Guilin, Yangshuo, Xi'an, Beijing (extra 2 days chilling out by ourselves in Beijing). Very professionally organised, especially taking note of our personal preferences. Guides waiting for us at each location and clearly outlining where and when we would be in their location. Besides the essential "must see" locations, the company organised a couple of small visits to locations that suited our preferences; the visit to a family's apartment home will live long in the memory: we were taught to make dumplings and noodles (!) and then sat down to an exquisite family meal. We made several friends - including a US couple on a similar tour - and most of the guides and we will be exchanging mails over the coming months & years Brilliant work, China Private Tour!
